David
Maintenance Services Manager, Facilities
Tell us about your job. What do you do?
I oversee maintenance and service contracts for 16 locations.
I also work with HR to assist in custodial and security services. No two
days are the same—I spend time traveling to each of my sites to conduct
audits, and I meet with maintenance techs to provide guidance and troubleshooting.
What do you love about your job?
I love solving problems for people. I enjoy providing guidance
to [maintenance] techs and teaching them how to think through problems
and encourage them to take on challenges. I like being the go-to guy for
people when they have a facilities problem and don’t know what to do.
What’s the best thing about working here? What makes you proud
to work for West?
The people I work with. That’s what I came back [to Omaha]
for. My manager is very determined and very supportive. She’s provided
wonderful guidance. What makes me proud is that there is a lot of opportunity
for individuals.
In your opinion, how is working at West different than working
at other companies?
There’s definitely a better chance for succeeding here.
West can offer the best growth, and people can develop and make careers
here. West values the hard worker.
What are the most valuable life lessons you’ve learned while
working here?
Take advantage of every opportunity. I’ve both found
positions and had them presented to me because management thinks I can
take on challenges.
What would you tell someone who was thinking of beginning a career
with West? What does it take to succeed here?
It takes a positive attitude and hard work.
What three words would you use to describe your job?
Challenging, changing, rewarding
