Michelle
Director of Enterprise Compensation and Benefits Support, Human Resources
Tell us about your job. What do you do?
I oversee the group that processes job requisitions and that handles
the appraisal process. I oversee and manage projects with any type of C&B
involvement, including integration and benefits-related work. Any special
project that has to do with the systems and C&B uses, we handle.
How did you begin your career at West? How did you advance through
the company? What’s made you successful?
I’ve been here for ten years. I started as a Benefits
Coordinator, and then I moved to the Compensation side of the house. When
we started using our HRMS vendor, I started getting involved in that. Also,
there was some data entry work with our system, and those folks reported
up through me. I was in that role for several years, and then I moved up
to Project Manager over time. Now, in my new role, both project management
work and managing the team fall under my umbrella.
What’s made me successful is that I’m a perfectionist. I really take
pride in what I do. If someone gives me something, I’ll get it done. I’ve
also succeeded by taking lessons from those I report up through. By observing
them, I’ve learned how to become a better team player and manager.
What do you love about your job?
I love interaction with various people throughout the company.
I get to talk to people at different sites, and that’s really given me
a better idea of how the company is structured. I love that, because our
business is so diverse, there are many different projects I can get involved
in.
What’s the best thing about working here? What makes you proud
to work for West?
There have been a lot of great opportunities for me here.
I’ve grown a lot as a person and as a manager. The growth of the company
is phenomenal. We continue to diversify our business. It’s great to work
for a company that works past the now and is always looking to the future.
In your opinion, how is working at West different that working
at other companies?
The company is so diverse. When I started, we focused
on inbound and outbound telemarketing. Now we have West Asset Management,
InterCall. West is different than other companies because it has so many
different areas of growth.
What are the most valuable life lessons you’ve learned while
working here?
Because of all the challenges I face in my job, I’ve
learned both to focus and to multitask.
What would you tell someone who was thinking of beginning a career
with West? What does it take to succeed here?
West provides great opportunities. You have to be on
the lookout for opportunities. You also need qualities like attention to
detail and focus. West looks at people who are giving it their all and
gives them opportunities to advance.
